The Espadán and Calderona mountain ranges hug Segorbe hill
safely inside the magic circle of their hillsides. Here the olive,
almond and carob trees mix with cork oaks, pines and kermes oaks,
set in a perfect harmony between farmed and unfarmed land.

Wandering among the gullies, the shady spots, woods and pine spinneys
is one of the delights reserved for the visitor seeking to admire
nature in its very heart. Between the russet-red earth and the limestone,
the springs wait for anyone capable of enjoying them and here and
there an isolated farmstead crops up. Their names do not matter
so much, as these estates are now very often covered with the sweat
of seasons, the smell of oil and wheat, the deadened echo of animals
no longer kept there...
The
adventure of discovering Segorbe's natural beauty spots may entail
scrambling up to the top of a hill to get a view of the sea, or
climbing down into caves which house sanctuaries. We may be surprised
with chapels which sanctify pagan sites with olive trees big enough
to make the very mountains shrink.
The Sierra Calderona located between the provinces of Castellón
and Valencia (Spain) consists of a mountainous NW-SE line which
separates the basins of the Palancia and Turia rivers, extending
through the counties of Alto Palancia, Camp de Morvedre, Camp de
Turia and L´Horta Nord. At a distance of just 20 km. from
the city of Valencia, it includes the following towns, which have
all or part of their municipal area inside the Calderona range:
Albalat dels Tarongers, Alcublas, Algimia de Alfara, Estivella,
Gátova, Gilet, Liria, Marines, Náquera, Olocau, El
Puig, Puzol, Sagunto, Albalat de Segart, Serra, Torres-Torres, Altura
and Segorbe.
