Painting took an important place in the former diocese of Segorbe-Albarracín and later on of Segorbe, as is vouched for by the examples still existing. The best and most important Valencian schools are represented at the exhibition with work that goes from the late 14th to well into the 19th century.

A clear example of the quality and richness of the painting in the former diocese is represented in works such as the fragment of the early altarpiece from the cathedral, belonging to one of the most select workshops in Valencia, along with the almost complete altarpiece by Alpuente, apart from the retables of the chapels in Segorbe cathedral cloisters, which form a select series of first rate Valencian Gothic painting from the early 15th century.

We cannot fail to mention the superb Altarpiece of Our Lady of the Angels and the Eucharist by Jacomart which, along with the extremely delicate Saint Luke altarpiece, are examples of the best late 15th century Valencian painting, and the majesty of the mounting of the great main altar piece of the cathedral, a work by Vicent Macip, constitutes one of the treasures of 16th century Valencian painting.
