A painstaking and delicate restoration process has allowed the original state of the fresco in the vault to be recovered. Here the different stages in the process can be appreciated: from the first analysis of the surface to determine the type of pigment and binder to be used, going through the different sampling processes so vital for establishing the cleaning method.
 

Each step was carefully studied, leaving nothing to chance. The project was got under way in 1998 and completed in 2001. Now, looking upwards, one feels much closer to the heavens!
