The "Light
of Images" is an attempt to recover the rich cultural legacy which
has taken shape over the ages in Segorbe. Works of art from the Cathedral
itself and others from parishes, museums and private and public collections
all reveal the evolution in time and the traces that the past has gradually
left in one of the most ancient dioceses in Spain.
This is thus a journey through history, structured in different ages which
marked the history of the diocese: the late 14th and 15th centuries, the
16th century, 17th century, late 18th and early 19th centuries.
A visit to what was an Episcopal city from the 13th to the 20th century
and now chief centre of Castellón province's Alto Palancia county
becomes a unique opportunity to examine roughly 600 works, many of them
first-rate and hitherto unknown. It is here that Segorbe's "Light of
Images" displays some of the best Valencian works of art of all time,
in their full splendour.
The architecture of the city of Segorbe, now restored for this occasion,
will act as a chronological guide through the different historical ages
which structure the exhibition. Music too is given all due importance, as
one of the great facets of Segorbe Cathedral's archives, becoming both part
of the event and a complement, and at the same time acting as a setting
for each exhibition space.
