Tarancón: "Reaching 100,000 visits vouches for the success of The Light of Images"


Valencia's Minister for Culture and Education, Manuel Tarancón, who presided this morning over the act celebrating the presence of visitor number 100,000 to The Light of Images, pointed out that "such a flow of visitors vouches for the exhibition's success. This is a figure that we hoped to attain, a pleasing round figure for a highly successful exhibition".

A group of first year primary school pupils from CP Herrero of Castellón were visit number 100,000 to the exhibition, which covers and discovers the history of Segorbe-Castellón diocese through diverse artistic expressions: architecture, painting, sculpture, precious metalwork and fabrics.

The Culture and Education Minister gave them material edited by The Light of Images on the occasion of the event for the school library, such as the catalogues of the exhibitions in Segorbe and Valencia, the CD with the music of Segorbe Cathedral, the book of musical scores, the book entitled "The enlightened renovation of Segorbe Cathedral: from Bishop Alonso Cano to architect Vicente Gascó", or the videos on The Light of Images in Segorbe and the history of the diocese.

Minister Tarancón also gave the students from the group school material prepared by The Light of Images such as puzzles, boxes of crayons and notebooks, as well as T-shirts, pins, cups and confectionery, prepared by the craftsmen of Alto Palancia county.


Further extension of the exhibition's run

In respect of the extension of the extra time allowed the exhibition, which will stay open until next 26th May, the minister said that "only the Board of the Foundation is competent to decide if this is extended. At a coming meeting they will look into the possibilities and options available depending on the demand and on questions such as extending the loans and insurance, since an event like The Light of Images requires the most distinguished image".
